Creating interest lists on Facebook is the very best way to control the content you consume on the world’s largest social media network.
While Facebook’s News Feed algorithm is designed to filter the content served in your News Feed to show you only the best of the best, it does this by invariably limiting what you see, some of which might be of great interest.
Interest lists allow you to create custom feeds of content based on what you want to see. No filtering. No algorithm. Nothing missed.
Consider creating interest lists based on your hobbies, professional interests, groupings of friends, businesses or brands of interest, areas for ongoing learning or professional development, or anything else that – well – may be of interest.
Curious as to how to create interest lists?
1 – In the left side bar, hover your cursor over the section dedicated to ‘INTERESTS’, and click ‘More’.
2 – Click the large ‘+ Add Interests’ button at the top of your screen.
3 – Click the larger ‘+ Create List’ button, again, at the top of your screen.
4 – Find the Pages or people you would like to include in your list by either searching for them using the search bar at the top of the pop-up window, or by scrolling through your ‘liked’ Pages within the window.
5 – When you’ve found a person or Page you’d like to include on your interest list, simply click it and a check mark will appear to indicate that selection.
6 – Title your interest list by filling in the text box that prompts you to ‘Choose a list name…’, and select privacy settings for your list, either ‘Public’, ‘Friends’ or ‘Only Me’. Then all that’s left is to click ‘Done’.
Do you use interest lists?
If so, what interest lists have you created?
Do you find them to be useful?
How else do you optimize the value of your Facebook experience?
It would be great to chat with you more about this in the comments, on Twitter @RGBSocial, or on Facebook.
