Last Week on Social - June5

Thanks for stopping by Last Week on Social, the blog series dedicated to providing a simple way to stay on top of the latest news and announcements from each of the major social media networks.

Every week, we round-up the latest updates from Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter, Vine, YouTube, and others that may impact the way you use social media networks for your business.

For the period of May 30 – June 5, here’s a breakdown of news from last week on social:

INSTAGRAM

Business Tools

In the coming months, businesses in the USA, Australia, and New Zealand will have access to new Instagram tools, including Business Profiles, Insights, and Promote (ad buying). These tools will be available globally by the end of the year.

Feed Algorithm

It’s official! Over the course of the next month, Instagram will be rolling out an algorithm to prioritize the content users see in their feed. Gone are the days of endless, unfiltered Instagram feeds.

PINTEREST

Pin it = Save

A result of surging global Pinterest usage, as well as translation and comprehension issues, the “Pin it” button has been renamed “Save”. RIP “Pin it” button.

TWITTER

Testing Promoted Tweets Carousel

Currently in testing in select global markets, the Promoted Tweet Carousel enables advertisers to curate several tweets within a single, swipeable ad unit. Curated tweets can combine text, images, and video, and can be comprised of owned tweets, or tweets from other people – so long as they’ve given the advertiser permission to use their content.

Beta for New Automation Tools for Premium Pre-Roll

Available through select Ads API Partners, Twitter is in beta with new Video Ad Serving Templates (VAST) that, ‘… standardize communication between ad servers and video players… [so that] … advertisers can now programmatically serve pre-rolls in front of premium content…’.

Facebook, LinkedIn, Vine, and YouTube all had quiet news weeks with no announcements worth reporting.

As always, if we’ve missed something, please feel free to bring it to our attention in the comments.
