last-week-on-social-september4

Thanks again for checking out Last Week on Social, the blog series dedicated to providing a simple way to stay on top of the latest news and announcements from each of the major social media networks.

Every week, we round-up the latest updates from Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter, Vine, YouTube, and others that may impact the way you use social media networks for your business.

For the period of August 29 – September 4, here’s a breakdown of news from last week on social:

FACEBOOK

Messenger Instant Video

Instant Video enables users to share live video directly from Messenger as an overlay of current text conversation.

Improving Mobile Experiences

Facebook has introduced prefetching, technology that pre-loads content in the Facebook in-app mobile browser before a link is tapped to, ‘… shorten load times by 29 percent…’.

New and Improved Facebook Offers

Offers are now available on mobile, and a new Offers tab is available for users to keep track of claimed offers on mobile or desktop.

PINTEREST

New Ad Targeting Options

Advertisers can now target users that have interacted with their pins, that have engaged in certain ways on their websites (i.e. signups, add to carts, purchases, etc.), and that share similar behaviours – similar to lookalike audiences on other social networks.

Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Vine, and YouTube had quiet news weeks with no announcements worth reporting.

As always, if we’ve missed something, please feel free to bring it to our attention in the comments.
