Thanks for checking out Last Week on Social, the blog series dedicated to providing a simple way to stay on top of the latest news and announcements from each of the major social media networks.

Every week, we round-up the latest updates from Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter, Vine, YouTube, and others that may impact the way you use social media networks for your business.

For the period of September 12 – 18, here’s a breakdown of news from last week on social:

INSTAGRAM

Comment Keyword Moderation

Comments on Instagram are becoming a safer, self-moderated space with the introduction of keyword filters. All users can now establish custom lists of words they find offensive or inappropriate to filter out any comments including those words.

Link Ad Enhancements

Link ads have been redesigned to include a larger CTA button that extends the entire width of an ad; a highlight animation of the CTA button when users demonstrate some level of interest; the addition of a CTA button to the comments section of each ad; and, the automatic inclusion of additional information such as a price or destination URL being automatically included in the CTA button.

PINTEREST

Promote Button

Currently only available in the U.S., Pinterest has added a Promote button to each pin, enabling advertisers to quickly, ‘… set up a Promoted Pin in as little as 9 seconds’.

TWITTER

Notification Quality Filter

Users can now control who they receive notifications from: everyone, or only people they follow.

New Customer Support Features

Two great new features have been added for businesses that provide customer service support: 1) businesses can now indicate that they provide support, and this information will show up in search results, and 2) businesses that provide customer service support can indicate on their profiles the hours during which customers can expect a response.

_

Facebook, LinkedIn, Vine, and YouTube had quiet news weeks with no announcements worth reporting.

As always, if we’ve missed something, please feel free to bring it to our attention in the comments.
