last-week-on-social-october23

Thanks for checking out Last Week on Social, the blog series dedicated to providing a simple way to stay on top of the latest news and announcements from each of the major social media networks.

Every week, we round-up the latest updates from Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter, Vine, YouTube, and others that may impact the way you use social media networks for your business.

For the period of October 17 – 23, here’s a breakdown of news from last week on social:

FACEBOOK

Update to Pages

CTA buttons can now integrate with existing web-based services to enable customers to take direct business-driving action on Pages. If integrated, users will be able to place a food order, book appointments, buy tickets, and see showtimes.

For businesses that don’t use any of the third-party partners Facebook currently supports, they can still take advantage of new CTA button features to drive orders, make appointment bookings, and manage customer inquiries.

Comment Recommendations

US users have the ability to turn on Recommendations on individual posts. This will enable friends to make suggestions that will be accompanied by links and rich detail, all saved in one place.

Update to Events

Coming soon to US users, the Events tab has been updated to allow people to view recent events activity from friends and browse recommendations based on what is popular with friends.

INSTAGRAM

Stories on Explore

Users will now be able to discover new Stories within Explore.

PINTEREST

Content Creation Partnerships: The Pin Collective

The Pin Collective is an initiative that connects top Pinterest content creators with marketers to provide end-to-end creative content services.

YOUTUBE

End Screens

YouTube is effectively killing common practice of using annotations to drive viewers to more content at the end of a video by launching End Screens, a mobile-optimized equivalent.

LinkedIn, Twitter, and Vine had quiet news weeks with no announcements worth reporting.
